In-Line Systems – Eddy Current Bars

These industrial systems are designed to detect surface defects in bars of various diameters (rounds) or sides (squares). Inspection is done directly on the production line and can be coupled to ultrasonic systems for full-body inspections of steel bars.

Depending on productivity requirements, round and square bars are inspected, using the same EC layers or using designated EC layers for square bars. Bars to be inspected are conveyed by a double heavy-duty pinch roller before being directed inside the EC layers. Each EC layer detects bar presence and is automatically lowered on the bar. When the EC layers exit, the bar is then conveyed by a single heavy-duty pinch roller to be returned to the production line conveyor.

Systems are available on two basic automation platforms, Siemens or Allen Bradley.

• Minimum bar length: 3 m  (depending on inspection requirements and diameters)
• Inspection speed: 100 mm/s. to 2000 mm/s.
